People have been asking me a lot of the same questions over the years. So I thought it would be a good idea to create this Frequently Asked Questions page. I'll keep updating it here as I go.
last update: Aug 2016
Q. Did you draw all of this?
Q. Do you have your 2014 sketchbook for sale?
Q. Do you have your 2015 sketchbook for sale?
Q. Do you have your 2016 sketchbook for sale?
A. Yes. But I'm only selling whatever is left at conventions now.
Q. What kind of tools do you use to draw?
A. It changes every now and then. Lately, I've been using a regular mech pencil with 0.5 HB lead.
Kneded eraser to clean my lines. Whatever hard eraser to really erase when needed.
For the inks I use mostly a Winsor&Newton (series 7, sizes 000, 00 and 1) brush, the rechargeable Kuretake brush pen for thicker (and awesome) lines and whatever old brush for cool textures.
I'm still trying to find the perfect white ink/acrylic, but I've been using Wite-Out and Sakura's Gelly Roll pens.
And I use Micron pens for straight lines.
And whatever black ink. Right now, Dr. Ph. Martin's Black Star.
And I've been using Copic markers every once in a while. Warm and Neutral greys from 1 to 10. Fun stuff.
Q. What are you working on at the moment?
A. Detective Comics for DC.
Q. Do you sell original artwork?
A. Yes. Send me an email for more info: email@example.com
Q. Do you work for Riot?
A. No. At the end of 2013 I did some promotional illustrations for League of Legends, but as a freelancer. And that was it.
Q. When is your next comic convention?
A. There's a "con schedule" link here on this website. I'll try to keep it updated.
Q. Do you take commissions?
A. My commission list is currently closed.
Q. What comics have you worked on before?
A. For Marvel, "Spider-Man & Fantastic Four - Hard Choices" and "Marvel Adventures Super Heroes". For Image, "Dynamo 5". For Boom!, "The Incredibles" and "Incorruptible". For DC, "Blue Beetle", "The Flash Annual" and "The Flash". And "Earthward" with writer Bryan Q. Miller, which was a Kickstarter funded project. And recently "Smallville - Lantern", "Detective Comics", "Batman and Robin Eternal" and "Nightwing" for DC Comics. "Captain Marvel", "Armor Wars" and "All-New Wolverine" for Marvel.
Q. How can I draw like you?
A. Draw every day and you can only get better. Do that, and you'll probably end up better than me.
Q. I'm a new writer. Would you like to work on my awesome project for free and we share the profits?
Q. Would you like to work for free at all?
Q. Do you take requests?
A. No. But sometimes I'll ask for suggestions from fans online.
Q. Do you sell prints online?
A. No. Only at cons.
Q. Can you draw my favorite female (or male) character doing bizarre sex things?
Q. What kind of paper do you use to draw?
A. For monthly books I use the paper the companies send to me. Other than that, I use the "Borden & Riley #234 Paris Bleedproof paper for pens", 9 x 12 in. It's a very smooth one and works alright with inks and markers.
Q. Are you going to San Diego Comic Con this year (any year)?
A. No plans at the moment.
Q. Can you do a tutorial explaining how you do your work?
A. I could. I want to. But those things take some time to put together, and honestly it's a little boring. But I will do it eventually.
Q. Can I color or ink one of the drawings you posted online?
A. Yea. Just make sure to put credits, please. No need to ask.
Q. Are they going to make The Incredibles 2?
A. Looks like it's happening. I just read something about it online. I do not work for Pixar though.
Q. Are your lines digital? or Do you work on a tablet/cintiq?
A. My lines are all inked with a real brush or a real pen. I do not use a tablet or cintiq. I do color some of my drawings using Photoshop. And I use a mouse for that.
Q. When are you going to do more tiny characters?
A. I did 200 of them and I think that's it. But who knows. update: I did a few more :)
Q. Can you send me the high res of one of your drawings?
A. If you didn't pay for that, no. I could, but then I'd have to send it to everyone asking me for that. I just don't have the time.
Q. Did you work on "The Incredibles" movie?
Q. Are you Canadian? or Where are you from?
A. I'm half Japanese, half Brazilian. Born in Rio/Brazil. And I spent around 7 years of my life in Toronto/Canada.
